Latest Confirmed Cases of COVID-19 in South Africa (30 May 2021)

As of today, the cumulative number of COVID-19 active cases identified in South Africa is 145,904, with 18,762 new cases reported over the past 24 hours.

 

South Africa (26 June 2021) – In the last 24 hours, South Africa has seen an increase of 18,762 new COVID-19 infections, which brings our active cases to 145,904 and our recoveries to 1,690,380. We currently have a 96,5% recovery rate in closed cases and are making our way to even more recoveries every day.

COVID-19 is the greatest global shock in decades. Millions of lives have been lost, and the world’s economy likely faces the worst recession since the 1930s. The resulting loss of employment and income will cause further damage to livelihoods, health, and sustainable development.

The numbers can often seem confusing. As of today, South Africa has conducted 12,842,761 tests and had 1,895,905 total positive results, but positive results change daily as people recover, so even though there have had over 1,6 million positive results, we have also had 1,690,380 recoveries. Here are today’s total numbers:

  • Recoveries: 1,690,380 (14,553 more than yesterday)
  • Active Cases: 145,904 (3,994 more than yesterday)
  • Deaths: 59,621 (215 more than yesterday)
  • Vaccinations: 2,661,378 (111,130 more than yesterday)

We can also break down the Active Cases further to see where each region stands:

  • Gauteng: 76,295
  • Western Cape: 14,691
  • North West: 12,182
    KwaZulu-Natal: 11,925
  • Free State: 10,643
  • Northern Cape: 7,221
  • Mpumalanga: 4,850
  • Eastern Cape: 3,914
  • Limpopo: 4,183

Vaccination breakdown:

  • Sisonke Programme Completed Vaccinations: 479,768
  • Total Pfizer First Dose Vaccinations: 2,181,607
  • Total Pfizer Second Dose Vaccinations: 0
