The footage might be fake, but the message is real.
Footage of a lion attacking two hunters after they killed another lion in South Africa has astounded the internet – but not for the reason you might think.
In the video below, a couple of game hunters proudly pose for pictures next to the dead body of a lion they have presumably, just killed.
“We’ll get a few good shots here for the wall at home,” says the khaki-clad man. “Not so big now are you pussy cat?”
While he goes to check the camera, viewers can see a real lion creeping up from behind them – he then jumps out at the woman, who runs away screaming. The man follows suit, shouting expletives while dashing from view off the camera.
A gunshot is then heard before the lion creeps back into frame.
The video was uploaded to YouTube by Jayden Taner along with the hashtag #StopTrophyHunting, claiming he received the footage from a hunter in South Africa.
“For me, this video highlights a distressing situation that the world needs to see,” he said.
“Every year trophy hunters kill thousands of exotic wild animals in Africa, this combined with poaching poses a serious threat to the survival of our most loved and endangered species. We have to stop this now.”
So is this footage legit or fake? Many viewers claim the clip could be a wild PR stunt.
Still, the anti-trophy hunting message it sends is a powerful one.
