The Litterboom Project has taken a significant leap in the fight against plastic pollution with the launch of its Cape Town Innovation Hub.
Cape Town, South Africa (24 February 2025) – In a creative and innovative approach to turning waste into wonder, the Litterboom Project recently launched its awesome Cape Town Innovation Hub at Rondebosch Golf Club – a space dedicated to waste innovation, recycling, and sustainability.
Here, plastics recovered from rivers, coastlines, and communities by the dedicated members of the organisation who work tirelessly on the ground, get sorted, processed and transformed into useful products like coasters, planter stakes, and combs.
Guests at the launch experienced the magic firsthand, recognising the importance of recycling in preserving our environment and creating useful products for everyday use. What makes this initiative even more incredible is that this effort helps keep waste out of our oceans and landfills.
This new facility is a powerful addition to the organisation’s mission to effectively deal with the mounds of plastic pollution they collect through their already impressive water-catchment systems.
As The Litterboom Project’s CEO, Cameron Service, put it:
“As part of our ecosystem approach and our role in mitigating environmental plastic pollution, we have carefully chosen these programmes to play vital roles in our short, medium and long-term plans.
“We believe it is not about a ‘silver bullet’ approach, but rather a strategy that recognises solutions that can make an immediate impact, followed by longer-lasting interventions in partnership with the private sector and municipality.”
