Local street artist Mook Lion’s latest murals have graced the tiny historic town of Willowmore. Commissioned by Revive Willowmore, the artworks uplift and bring light to the small community.
Karoo, South Africa (01 December 2025) – Mook Lion has done it again. Earlier this year, we featured his murals that backed an important mission in wildlife conservation in the Eastern Cape. Now, he has teamed up with another non-profit, Revive Willowmore, to bring his art-for-change to the Karoo’s walls.

The two murals – one depicting an iconic Karoo landscape complete with a kokerboom and gemsbok, and another a village donkey – took almost a week to complete in collaboration with Willowmore aspiring artist Con-Roy Booyse.

The project is part of the local initiative working to breathe new life into the town. Revive Willowmore focuses on sustainable and environmental projects, community development and environmental clean-ups, as well as skills development and training for the unemployed.
Mook, whose art has long been a symbol for promoting good, has a history of partnering with NPOs.

“I’m inspired to work with NPOs because their mission and ethos are often in line with my own. It’s a good opportunity to create a beautiful mural that’s well supported, but isn’t promoting a commercial endeavour.”
Travelling the country to make art also comes with the valuable element of skills transference.
Wherever he goes, Mook collaborates with local and aspiring artists. In this case, his right hand was Con-Roy, who was so inspired by the collaboration that he is now enabled to further his own practice by bringing even more colour to the walls of Willowmore.

“It was fantastic working with Conroy…I left him with a bunch of paint, and [Revive Willowmore] gifted him a bunch of brushes. He’s already sent me pictures of murals that he’s busy doing in Willowmore,” shares Mook Lion.
That’s what we love. Artwork that uplifts and empowers.
