A new garden-fledged with natural heritage has opened in Majik Forest as created by local ‘flower king’ Leon Kluge, who won gold for SA at the renowned RHS Chelsea Flower Show!
Majik Forest, South Africa (09 September 2024) — Spring and all things blossoming and new go hand-in-hand, and for Majik Forest, this sentiment couldn’t be more true thanks to a new community garden that’s opened up in the beloved area just in time for the season!
A conservation area in Durbanville, Majik Forest is a unique natural space in Cape Town that’s known and loved for both its tranquillity and the chance it provides to spend time with critically endangered flora.
Early last week, Majik welcomed an addition to its natural offerings thanks to the opening of the Renosterveld Garden as developed by the Wildflower Stepping Stones Project Group (WSSP)—a local group that conserves pockets of locally indigenous wildflowers to combat habitat fragmentation.
Created by flower king Leon Kluge, who won gold for South Africa at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show and the Singapore Garden Festival this year, as well as his right-hand, artist Tristan Woudberg, alongside WSSP and the Recreation and Parks Department, the Renostereld Garden is a certified wonder!
20 locally indigenous trees (Wild Peach and Wild Olive) were also planted as a special nod to Arbor Month.
The garden is now a special showcase of the beauty and diversity of the indigenous Swartland Shale Renosterveld—an endangered vegetation type that is rare in the area that it once flourished in before agricultural and urban development.
The Garden welcomes all who visit this treasured part of the Cape to stop by and stands as a luscious reminder of the iconic plant series part of our natural heritage as well as the unsung heroes working hard to protect and restore them.
