An orphaned duiker named Prue faced a heartbreaking start to life after losing her mother to hunting dogs. Thankfully, this vulnerable antelope found refuge at CROW in Durban, where dedicated staff like Zoe Dougall provided her with loving care.
Durban, South Africa (29 January 2025) – Duikers, with their captivating charm and endearing features, are small to medium-sized brown antelope native to sub-Saharan Africa, where they thrive in the dense cover of heavily wooded areas.
One special grey duiker, who has come to be affectionately named Prue, had a rather rough start after tragically losing her mother to hunter dogs last year.
But thankfully, this innocent and orphaned antelope didn’t have to navigate her early development alone. She soon found her way into the loving and caring arms of Zoe Dougall, a dedicated Clinic Nurse at the Centre for the Rehabilitation of Wildlife (CROW) in Durban.
Prue underwent careful rehabilitation to prepare for her release back into the wild where she belongs this week! Today, she roams free in the wilds of Bothas Hill, living the life she deserves.
A video shared by the centre captured the heartwarming moment Prue was released, initially shy and hesitant as she took in the lush greenery of her new home.
Prue is one of the thousands of orphaned, injured and displaced wild animals that find their way through CROW’s doors every year, where they find new hope for a second chance at a free, safe and sustainable life free from distress.
