The public is welcome to witness a joyful penguin release taking place on the 16th of November in Plettenberg Bay; this is all you need to know.
Plettenberg Bay, South Africa – Every year around this time, Natures Valley Trust release penguins back into the wild after rehabilitating them. The Good Things Guy team also write a story about the release every year and many readers have expressed their wishes to be present at the release, so this year we have put together all the information about it.
In 2017, 10 penguins were released by the Trust and again in 2018. The Natures Valley Trust has announced another release in partnership with several organisations.
The penguins are taken in and rehabilitated by the Tenikwa Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre. The centre is of the largest active wildlife rehabilitation centres in the Western Cape and attend to a diverse variety of animals accepting both terrestrial and marine species.
Every year, the rehabilitation centre cares for 230 to 300 different birds. Their facility is open to the public and works to create awareness around saving birdlife as well as small mammals.
The penguin releases have become a popular event as they inspire hope. Many people visit the beach to watch as the little African Penguins make their way back into their natural environment. The Natures Valley Trust has invited the public to join them in a celebration of yet another penguin freedom walk.
“It’s that time again! We have a group of happy African Penguins ready for release on the 16 November 2019, from Lookout beach in Plett. It is a Saturday so bring the whoooole family to see these little guys be reunited with the waves. As always a great BIG thank you goes to Tenikwa Wildlife Rehabilitation and Awareness Centre for their tireless work at rehabbing these birds. Well done!”
