PinkDrive together with the Totalsports Women’s Race will take their fight against cancer to the streets of Durban on Sunday, 17 July 2016.

“Cancer, specifically breast cancer, is one of the largest pandemics that women are faced with in South Africa,” says
Charmaine Claasens, Head Of Marketing Totalsports.

“PinkDrive’s motto of ‘early detection saves lives’ has resonated with us. We believe that sport changes lives and together with PinkDrive we look forward to doing just that. We are proud to continue our support and can’t wait to welcome entrants to the Totalsports Women’s Race in Durban.”

A Non-Profit Company (NPC), PinkDrive is committed to improving breast cancer awareness, education, and providing and offering free services to the medically uninsured across South Africa. PinkDrive will be present at the Totalsports Women’s Race in Durban offering FREE clinical breast examinations and educating on the importance of self- breast examinations.

According to cancer survivor, Janice Benecke, PinkDrive has given her back her life. “In 1994 I was diagnosed with germ cell cancer. I recovered, but 14 years later I found a lump in my breast which turned out to be breast cancer. After another operation and more chemotherapy, I recovered a second time. Unfortunately, during this period, my husband was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma; bone marrow cancer. He passed away after seven months”.

“PinkDrive has given me back my life,” continues Benecke. “I love to help and advise the next person so that their journey is a bit easier. Exercise is very important to cancer survivors.

We need to work on our strength and fitness. Teaming up with the Totalsports Women’s Race definitely adds an element of fun to an exercise regime. PinkDrive will once again be offering free breast examinations on the day. This was really well supported in 2015. We look forward to meeting new people. Our door is always open to offer support.”

Totalsports Women’s Race entrants can help make a difference by supporting the pink “Shop4Cancer” at the Berea Rovers Sports Club on the day of the event.

With two fun events to choose from, a 5km run/fun walk and a 10km run/fun walk, the Totalsports Women’s Race is ideal for the whole family, from moms with prams, children, husbands, family and friends.
