‘He’s brought his cat in for us to kill it – huh, did we hear him right?’

Fouriesburg, Free State (22 September 2025) – Cluny Animal Trust was almost bowled over when a man brought his cat in on the suspicion of it being a witch. Yes, you read that correctly.

“He had brought this gorgeous boy to us because in his words, he is a witch and when we asked him why he would think that, he told us it is because he apparently talks like a human…you could have knocked us all down with a feather. We appreciate that some people have superstitions when it comes to cats but this was a first…” shared the team at Cluny.

That was only the beginning of the bizarre interaction. The man then insisted that they put the cat down, or he would.

“Then the real fight began, out from the box came this gorgeous healthy boy, no reason for PTS, but the man refused to sign him over to us,” the team shared, “we must kill him or he will.”

Of course, the caring souls at Cluny would never let that happen. Despite the man attempting to leave after not getting what he so outrageously demanded, the team put up a fight, and eventually got him to surrender the cat.

“It took quite a bit of time but we eventually convinced him to sign a surrender form and leave the cat with us…wow did we all breathe a huge sigh of relief!”

The team took the little ginger biscuit in, and gave him a name that fitted his so-called abilities.

“We had originally called him Wizard, because after all his owner thought he was a witch but he was definitely a ‘he’! That name just didn’t seem to work, and then Dr Elsa started calling him Ron Weasley…the much beloved character from Harry Potter, who is also a redhead.”

And so it stuck. Ron was welcomed with open arms. He has been treated for ticks and fleas, dewormed, vaccinated, and he’s safe and sound from Voldemort.

Erm, we mean his previous owner.

Unfortunately, he’s not as comfortable as he could be, given the fact that Cluny does not have a cattery. At the moment, he’s safe in a cage but has limited play time.

“So we really want to rehome him as soon as we can, and yes he can indeed travel anywhere there is a suitable home for him in SA.”

So, he’s up for adoption to any loving family that will take him, no matter the distance.

“If you would like to chat to us about adopting this beautiful boy, the cost is R750 and standard adoption procedures and a home check do apply. Please get in touch with Imogen from the Cluny team on 082 337 3710 or imogen@clunyanimaltrust.co.za,” the team shares.
