Sardine Run

A film about the South African Sardine Run not only features beautiful landscapes but it also showcases the incredible ocean life we are blessed with.

From beautiful landscapes to incredible ocean life, South Africa is blessed with a beauty that is better than any other we have ever seen! Ok fine, we are probably very biased, but still!

Franck Fougère came to South Africa to film the famous Sardine Run and captured an amazing collection of footage. It includes Whales, Dolphins, Sharks and Swordfish as well as a large amount of bird life.

The video description was in French so with the help of Google Translate we translated it to English. Hopefully, it was an accurate translation as we obviously can’t read French. This is what it said,

The Sardine Run is, without doubt, one of the most impressive migrations we have ever seen in the marine environment: millions of sardines grouped in schools of several kilometers along the East Coast in South Africa, followed by many predators: sharks, dolphins, sea lions, Cape boobies and whales enjoy the feast with frenzy.

Made famous through animal documentaries, this phenomenon can be observed only for a short period (mid-June to mid-July). Abyssworld takes you on a unique expedition to Pondoland, just off the mouth of the Mbotyi River (the best spot to have the best chance of watching the Sardine Run).
An adrenaline-filled trip for experienced and passionate divers!

FYI a Cape Boobie is a type of bird. We had to double check that translation and learned something new about our coastal wildlife.
