“She makes me feel happy and calm”. That’s the comfort and joy Sunny brings to the growing boys at Highbury Preparatory School, a service dog whose quiet presence in the classrooms is making learning fun and all-around wholesome!
Hillcrest, South Africa (08 September 2025) – In the classrooms of Highbury Preparatory School, you’ll find young pupils hard at work or with their noses in books, all in the company of the cutest, furry companion!
Sunny is the school’s dedicated service dog who brings quiet comfort to the young boys’ busy days.
Service dogs are known to be faithful, loving friends, and they can greatly assist with living a more independent life or bring comfort and stability to those overwhelmed by stressful lifestyles.
For the Highbury boys, Sunny offers cuddles, companionship and support that make the learning environment more enjoyable and less stressful as they grasp new concepts and develop their skills.
“Sunny makes me feel a lot happier when I’m at school. I’m happy and joyful when she comes to school,” shares one pupil.
“She makes me feel happy, excited and calm. My favourite thing is to cuddle,” says another.
A video shared on Facebook by the school shows the dog walking through classroom settings, calmly engaging with learners during reading time, and even joining in on morning runs.
Another pupil said the bond he’d formed with Sunny had even taught him to be a kind friend and how to love.
We haven’t even met her, but we think it’s safe to say that Sunny is the best!
It’s heartwarming to see how this wonderful dog is enriching the boys’ learning and social experiences, helping them grow into kind and valued individuals!
