When Snoopy’s severe tick bite fever wasn’t getting better, Sylvester set off on his bicycle to get help for his best friend, determined to reach CLAW before it was too late.
Roodepoort, South Africa (12 March 2026) – We all love a powerful human-animal story. You know, the kind where pet owners, or just genuinely compassionate individuals, go above and beyond to get their beloved furry companions the help and care they need in moments of unexpected crisis or unforeseen illness.
We’ve seen owners walk kilometres on foot, carry their furbabies in makeshift boxes or ward off danger just to save a precious yet fragile life.
This recent story of Sylvester and his dog Snoopy, is not so different but just as touching.
When Snoopy fell ill and went from bad to worse despite Sylvester’s care and efforts, he hopped on his bicycle and cycled to Community Led Animal Welfare (CLAW) last week from the informal settlement of Jerusalem to get help.
By the time they reached the animal welfare, Snoopy was in severely bad shape.
“Sadly, Snoopy had an advanced stage of tick bite fever; she was urinating blood and had yellowing of the gums,” CLAW said.
But the team received her with open arms and got to work to treat her, although it was touch-and-go in the beginning.
“The necessary supportive care and treatment were done at our clinic, but Snoopy’s body was slow to respond. It was really worrying whether she would pull through this at all. It took days before she wanted to eat.”
But where there is a will, there is a way, and this doggo pulled through! Yesterday, she was reunited with Sylvester, stronger and the picture of good health.

A video captured the two walking back home together, and judging by that tail in the air, Snoopy was happy to be back home with her dad.
Her healing journey and reunion with Sylvester struck a chord with many people online.
“Omg, how special is this. Awesome owner too. Bless you, Sylvester and Snoopy and of course CLAW,” one person commented.
There is something inherently moving about the lengths people will go to for their pets. We’re so glad these two got their happy ending!
