It’s almost time for the 2024 Penguin Waddle—an event that can make a massive difference for African Penguins and that’s as simple as walking 5km no matter where in the world you are! Waddle you waiting for?

Global (09 September 2024) — Some have created breathtaking, awareness-focused artworks for them. Others volunteered to step up as their e-hailing drivers in times of need. Many are on-the-sand heroes working closely to rescue and rehabilitate them, and more are raising awareness about their plight. When it comes to support for the endangered African penguin, people have shown up in all kinds of wonderful ways, and another will soon present itself, begging only one question: waddle you waiting for to get involved in raising your voice for these special seabirds?

With the African penguin facing enduring trouble as a species, considering that the population is decreasing by around 8% every year per the Southern African Foundation for the Conservation of Coastal Birds (SANCCOB), those who want to live in a world where these seabirds still exist are rightfully concerned.

But, with more concern often comes more action. As such, this year’s Penguin Waddle is premised to be a big opportunity to lend your legs, support and your voice to the penguin’s plight!

Last year, almost 2,000 people from all over the world waddled to raise awareness and funds for SANCCOB. This was twice the amount of entries that 2022 had seen, and hopes are high that 2024 will be an even bigger success.

Waddle You Do?

Each year, the Penguin Waddle invites anyone from anywhere to waddle for a few kilometres. This year will be a virtual edition of the waddle.

All you have to do is decide to participate, pick out your trusty tekkies and get ready for a 5km run, walk or literal waddle—all in the act to raise awareness for the African penguin and funds for those protecting them.
