We’ve got heart eyes for all the wholesomeness the Purple Kennel Project has made happen for 30 doggies who received their new kennels this week!

Cape Town, South Africa (13 October 2026) – The Purple Kennel Project has sent out another batch of kennels and the happy homing pics have just blessed our feed.

If you haven’t heard of them before, the Purple Kennel Project has spent years being a ‘helper to the helpers’. It starts with kind supporters who donate toward kennels. From there, the kennels are built and delivered to the Purple Kennel Project’s headquarters, where they are checked and collected by animal welfare organisations. Those organisations then deliver the kennels to dogs in their communities that need them most.

Each kennel comes with its own personalised badge acknowledging the donor and the organisation responsible for getting it to its new furry resident!

The project has worked with at least 18 animal welfare organisations across the Western Cape over the years. Its kennels have replaced makeshift shelters and in some cases, they became the first real shelter for dogs never had any…

The best part happens when the project shares the happy homing pics on socials!

The Purple Kennel Project recently announced that it had distributed 539 kennels since February this year, bringing its overall total to more than 4700 kennels.

Another 30 kennels arrived last week and by Thursday, every last one was on its way to a dog in need through the Angel Project, The WOW Project and Angels For People and Animals.

The team shared a collection of happy snaps from The WOW Project, which does animal welfare outreach work in Atlantis, Wolwerivier and surrounding communities. Kerry and her team shared the special stories behind the photographs you’ll see below. It’s the most wonderful proof of what difference a roof can make!

Ouma finally has somewhere cosy to sleep!

In Atlantis, a dog named Ouma had absolutely no shelter to call her own. She has since received a beautiful purple kennel, complete with a warm pillow and blankie! Ouma was also sterilised by the outreach team in July, making this another positive step towards a healthier, happier life. Her new home was made possible by a generous anonymous donor.

A better life for Bruno and Layla

Bruno and Layla were found chained up in a damp, dingy courtyard behind a house in Atlantis. The conditions were heartbreaking. They had makeshift shelters, very little room to move, no sunlight and were surrounded by faeces. Thankfully, the outreach team managed to convince their owner to move them to the grassy front yard. Both dogs were given longer chains and a purple kennel each, thanks to an anonymous donor.

Takkies gets back on his paws

Poor Takkies from Atlantis endured a terrible ordeal after being attacked by a German Shepherd, reportedly at the encouragement of the other dog’s owner. He needed extensive veterinary care, but thanks to the wonderful work of a vet in Melkbosstrand, Takkies was stitched up and has made a full recovery! He now also has a lovely purple kennel to call his own, generously sponsored by the Schröder family.

More comfort for Coco

When Kerry found Coco, she was tied to a wall without any shelter. Her owner was afraid of losing her because the property wasn’t properly enclosed. The team stepped in to help by arranging Coco’s sterilisation, ensuring her rope was long enough to give her more room to move, and providing a kennel where she could rest comfortably. Coco now gets regular walks. Her new kennel was sponsored by regular supporter Connie Hutton.

Beloved Chicco’s journey back to good health

Chicco is a much-loved boy from Atlantis whose owner reached out when he stopped eating and appeared to be in terrible pain. A visit to Village Vet in Atlantis revealed that Chicco had an abscess affecting his only testicle, as well as Babesia and Ehrlichia, two serious tick-borne infections. His recovery was tough. Despite receiving antibiotics, he had lost 3kg by his follow-up appointment and needed further treatment. Thankfully, Chicco pulled through! He has since been sterilised and is doing well, with his very own purple kennel sponsored by the Schröder family.

Chloe swaps her baby bath for a proper home!

In Atlantis, a little dog named Chloe had been making do with an old baby bath as her sleeping spot. Unfortunately, it offered her no real protection from the weather. But things have changed for this sweet girl! Thanks to a kind anonymous donor, Chloe now has a proper purple kennel to keep her sheltered and comfortable.

Meide and Diamond stuck like glue

How adorable is this mom-and-son duo Meide and Diamond? The two Atlantis dogs were given a purple kennel thanks to an anonymous donor, but rather than enjoy their own space, they prefer to squeeze inside together. Life is better with a cuddle bud.

Tosca gets a new beginning

Sweet Tosca, a Pittie mom from Atlantis, has been through more heartbreak than any dog deserves. Her owners contacted the outreach team after believing she had suffered a miscarriage. Tragically, her puppies had died inside her, and she needed an emergency Caesarean section to remove them. Tosca had already been through three litters, with none of her puppies surviving birth. She was sterilised during her veterinary treatment, putting an end to further pregnancies. Thanks to the Schröder family, Tosca now has a purple kennel where she can rest and recover.

Buck gets a roof over his head

The outreach team has known Buck since he was just a puppy, so it was upsetting to find him chained up and sleeping beneath a car. Buck, who lives with his Pittie brother Kane, had reportedly started behaving aggressively towards people in the street, which led to his owner keeping him chained. The team delivered a purple kennel, asked the owner to clean up the yard and provided both dogs with Rogz collars and harnesses. They also planned a follow-up visit and a longer chain to give Buck more freedom of movement. A special thank you went to Theresa, who chose to think of dogs in need on her birthday!

Chunky Jinx finally gets her own little house!

After waiting more than a year for a kennel of her own, Chunky Jinx from Enchantress Street in Atlantis finally got her wish! The much-loved girl now has a purple home where she can settle in and get comfortable. Her new kennel was made possible by a generous Ladies Lunch group, whose continued support is helping more dogs enjoy the shelter they deserve.

Ekke finds a family and a forever home

Ekke’s story is a particularly special one. The former stray arrived at the doorstep of a kind family in Goedehoop who already had a Pittie named Spartan. Although the family had very little financially, they welcomed him into their lives. At the time, Ekke was severely underweight, covered in ticks and aggressive towards people and other dogs. The outreach team helped by including both dogs in its monthly feeding scheme, while Ekke also received vaccinations and was sterilised.

Today, he is thriving with his family! The aggression that once made him difficult to approach has subsided, and he has settled into his new life. He previously had an old, second-hand kennel, but thanks to regular donor Connie Hutton, Ekke now has a brand-new purple one!

These are just some of the dogs whose lives have been made easier through the latest kennel distributions. There are many more whose photographs and stories have been shared, and thousands before them who have benefited from the same kindness!

A kennel cannot solve every challenge faced by animals living in difficult circumstances. Many still need veterinary care, better living conditions and ongoing support. But having somewhere safe and dry to sleep is an important start. The welfare teams involved continue doing what they can to improve these dogs’ lives.

None of the wholesomeness you see above would be possible without the kindness of people who choose to sponsor a kennel and give a dog they may never meet a little home of their own. Supporters can even choose which animal welfare organisation they would like their kennel to go to, or leave it to the Purple Kennel Project to make sure it reaches a dog who needs it most.
