The Mdzananda Animal Clinic team are preparing to give pets without homes their first, true merry celebrations with the #MyFirstChristmas mission!

Cape Town, South Africa (11 December 2024) — This holiday season, the Mdzananda Animal Clinic based in Khayelitsha are hoping to give as many pets without homes as possible their first Christmas experience. As such, their #MyFirstChristmas mission is all about decking the kennels with spoils, treats and essential care.

The mission bears even more weight this year. Mdzananda shared that they have seen a spike in cases of abandonment leading up to the festive period. With more mouths to feed and more tails to keep wagging, the team hope that a Christmas filled with extra doses of care will be exactly what the doctor ordered for the intake and longstanding shelter residents alike.

“Most shelter pets have never experienced Christmas,” explains Fundraising and Communications Executive Marcelle du Plessis. “Christmas is usually a joyous day but my heart always breaks for the pets at our shelter facility who are spending it without a family. This year we hope to make it a bit more special for them.”

Like organisations such as Dogtown, who have a pet Christmas menu (you can check it out here), Mdzananda has its own set of options for the public to play Santa:

  • R100: A good cuddle (who doesn’t love that?)
  • R200: A cuddle and a treat
  • R300: A cuddle, treat and playtime
  • R500: All the cuddles, all the treats and all the playtime

For those looking to help with the nitty-gritty essentials:

  • R50: Get rid of nasty fleas and ticks
  • R80: A vaccination to stay healthy
  • R100: Yummy food for one week
  • R500: Sponsor an animal for a month (you can choose a specific pet by visiting the Mdzananda social media pages).
