Stellenbosch youngsters make a difference in their community.
Stellenbosch, South Africa (15 July 2021) – There’s no doubt that the past few months have been quite tough, but the youngsters in Stellenbosch are standing together like never before.
The Creating Leaders Among Youth Foundation (Clay Foundation) discovered the joy of giving each other a helping hand and how, when they work together, they can achieve so much more.
The local community-based foundation has therefore started a ‘drop-box’ initiative to raise donations for the less privileged. The project uses hair salons in Stellenbosch as a base for drop-offs.
“The aim of Clay is to create leaders among youth,” Eon Hendrikse, the founder of the Clay Foundation, said.
The foundation kick-started the campaign to raise donations as it’s essential for the sustainability of the CF’s outreach projects. Most of the members and volunteers are students and therefore assistance of civil society is important.
“We all have a responsibility towards humanity,” said Hendrikse.
“We decided to have a drop-box theme where you can donate sanitary products, tinned foods and stationery at the chosen three hair studios,” said Junaid Rass, the chairperson of the CF.
Peter’s Barber Shop and Arts Barber Shop, in Idas Valley, are accepting tinned foods and stationery donations. Bosch Hair Studio, in central Stellenbosch, is accepting sanitary products, according to Rass.
“Sanitary and stationery will be donated to various schools in our local communities. With the canned products, we will be making hampers to hand out to the needy on our normal food drives,” Rass added.
The foundation was launched in June 2020. The Foundation was established with the mission to offer a helping hand to the most vulnerable members of our community and by simply just making a difference.
