Global (07 August 2026) – It’s another action-packed weekend on the sporting calendar, with South African teams and athletes chasing silverware, World Cup qualification and international glory across the globe. Here’s what to keep an eye on this weekend.

Banyana Banyana Chase a World Cup Dream

South Africa’s women’s national football team faces hosts Morocco in the quarter-finals of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations on Saturday. Victory won’t only book a place in the semi-finals; it will also secure Banyana Banyana’s place at the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil.

Springboks Take on Argentina

The Springboks return to action on Saturday when they face Argentina in Buenos Aires. Coach Rassie Erasmus has welcomed back several experienced stars, including captain Siya Kolisi, Eben Etzebeth, Lood de Jager, Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu and Morne van den Berg as South Africa looks to continue its strong run.

Springbok Women Continue Pacific Tour

The Springbok Women will also be in action on Saturday, taking on Fijiana XV in Suva. Libbie Janse van Rensburg will captain South Africa for the first time as the side continues building towards the Rugby World Cup later this year.

South Africa’s Rising Stars shine in Oregon

The World Athletics U20 Championships continue in Eugene, Oregon, with South Africa’s talented youngsters chasing medals. The country’s 51-member team has already enjoyed a strong start, with athletes including Lesibe Dikgale and Tumi Ramokgopa progressing to the semi-finals. Competition runs through to Sunday, with several South Africans still in medal contention.
