The University of Pretoria choir is representing South Africa at the 13th International Advent Competition in Bratislava, Slovakia.

 

The University of Pretoria (UP) Youth Choir is a multi-cultural and diverse group of young performers representing all races, religions and economic groups of South Africa.

The UP Youth Choir is dedicated to providing children of all different backgrounds with a music education. They create performances that fulfill and develop each singer’s potential. The choir nurtures an artistic excellence and diversity that enriches the community.

The choir consists of 90 choristers aged 14 – 19 from the greater Tshwane area and represents 34 different high schools. The choir’s repertoire features an exciting assortment of South African and International music including elements of traditional music, jazz, gospel and folk music.

​The UP Youth Choir is recognized worldwide for its award-winning performances and spectacular artistry. During their recent tour, the choir bagged 4 incredible titles while representing South Africa at the 13th International Advent Competition in Bratislava, Slovakia.

The won:

  • Winner Youth choir Category 95%
  • Winner Pop, Jazz and Spiritual Category 95%
  • Winner Folklore Category 97%
  • Grand Prix Winner
  • Special Mention, Adjudicators Prize for Folklore Category – Best Choral Dramatization

“We are currently in Budapest enjoying the Christmas markets, and looking forward to the rest of our tour.”

One of the stops on their tour was to perform for the International Festival of Advent and Christmas Music. The choir was even given the opportunity to do the opening performance for the festival. Take a look at one of their performances below.
