An Internationally recognized Australian music producer and remix artist has taken the sounds of Joburg and turned it into an epic original song.
Pogo (Nick Bertke) is a music producer and remix artist based in Perth, Western Australia. His music has garnered over 169 million plays on YouTube and integration with many major studios and agencies around the world. Pogo also takes his work on the road having performed at the Guggenheim Museum, The Highline Ballroom and in most major cities across North America.
“Pogo chucks weird sounds into a blender and blasts them into a funky frappé for your earholes.”
The internationally recognized remixer, garnished a massive following after splicing scenes and noises from the movie Up! to make the beautiful track “Upular.”
Bertke has produced tracks using samples from films and TV shows such as Pulp Fiction and Alice in Wonderland. On 29 September 2016, Pogo had released a song called “Trumpular” on SoundCloud which consisted of quotes from Republican nominee Donald Trump.
But most recently, he visited Johannesburg, South Africa, to try to make music from real life scenes.
The result, much like “Upular” is a clever reshaping of out-of-context noises and rhythms that are glued together seamlessly to tell a completely new story altogether.
