On 17 October, South Africans are encouraged to wear their coolest sunglasses and stand with the visually impaired community and raise awareness.

South Africa (29 September 2025) – South Africa is gearing up for Shades Day 2025, a celebration that’s equal parts style and impact. On 17 October, participants across the country are encouraged to don their coolest sunglasses while showing support for the visually impaired community.

This annual initiative is all about creating awareness and empowering people to live more independently. Also, helping the SA Guide Dog Association raise funds.

Through guide dogs, white canes, and essential daily living skills training, those involved benefit from tools that transform lives.

Shades Day has a playful, fun-loving energy. It also serves as a serious reminder that small actions like wearing a sticker can make a big difference and raise awareness on eye health. Participants can share their Shades Day looks on social media, spreading awareness and inspiring others to join in.

The South African Guide-Dogs Association, which drives the initiative, continues to provide freedom and independence to South Africans with visual impairments and physical disabilities. By stepping into Shades Day, the country unites to support a cause that is as stylish as it is meaningful.

Want to get involved?
