Dating app Tinder is ‘o-fish-ally’ banning pictures of people holding fish on their dating profiles.
Global (31 March, 2023) — In an iconic announcement, dating app Tinder shared that ‘catch of the day’ pictures on profiles will finally be banned. This means that users will no longer be allowed to share ‘Fish Pics’ (AKA, most people’s least favourite picture) on their profiles.
While there might be ‘plenty of fish in the sea’, they don’t belong on Tinder anymore. According to the dating app, 92% of singles get the ‘ick’ (lose interest) after seeing a potential match’s fish pic.’
If you’ve never been subject to scouring through fish pics, count yourself lucky. But for many users, it’s one of the biggest head-shake and ‘not again’ moments in the world of dating.
The ban is set to take place sometime today, seeing all current fishy pictures removed.
“Effective immediately, Tinder will start removing all photos of members holding sea creatures big and small. All fish-related content is expected to be removed within 24-hours, making Tinder the first dating app in history to be “fish free,” because let’s face it – no one looks good holding a slimy fish.” —Tinder
Tinder also wants people to be more creative with their profile pictures.
Now, this is good news not only for the countless people (and many women) who are tired of determining whether they’re matching with a person or a trout, but also for environmentalists.
According to One Green Planet, sport fishing can be an “environmentally detrimental” activity. For one, a lot of boats pollute waterways. Similarly, fishing lines that aren’t thrown away properly can cause a lot of damage to wildlife. Not to mention overfishing putting strain on ocean populations.
By showing that the world is tired of fishing pics, hopefully, irresponsible fishers can realise that it’s not as big of a flex as they think it is.
And, for potential love birds, hopefully, there will be one less fishy barrier in the way of that perfect match.
