Peter Hodgskin decided to give the gift of an adventure to a group of boxers living below a private nature reserve who had never been inside.
Vogelgat Private Nature Reserve, South Africa (16 January 2020) – Many communities on the borders of private nature reserves or public nature reserves that require payment never get the chance to go in and experience nature. There are a few organisations that work to combat this. We have heard of some that work with communities surrounding the Kruger National Park. Children are taken in and shown the wildlife in the natural environment and then taught about why poaching is bad.
It is vital that people from these communities are afforded the opportunities to visit these reserves. Peter Hodgskin decided to treat the Overstand Whale Boxing Club to a day hiking in the Vogelgat Private Nature Reserve. The reserve is made up of 35kms of hiking trails, some ending up at fun waterfall pools. The reserve is right next door to the Fernkloof Nature Reserve in Hermanus.
Peter Hodgskin on behalf of the EMS Foundation treated Mzi Damesi and members of the Overstrand Whale Boxing Club to the hike, something they had never done despite living right below it.
