Heartland KZN has secured 20 tons of premium dog food at an incredible rate and wants to share that with 20 animal rescue centres across KZN – so that they can focus more on care rather than scrambling for basic supplies.
KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa (22 June 2026) – Heartland KZN prides itself on being a place where things are done with great heart. The organisation’s latest initiative, the 20 Ton campaign, is a perfect example of this.
The organisation has secured 20 tons of premium dog food at an incredible rate of just R15 per kilogram! The campaign aims to provide 20 rescue centres across KZN with one ton each of premium dog food, offered at an incredible 50% off usual retail prices. That’s 20 tons of nutritious support reaching those who need it most.
“Animal welfare in KwaZulu-Natal is a tough battle. Rescue centres are stretched thin, dealing with countless dogs in need of food, medical care, shelter, and love. The industry itself is overburdened, with limited resources and endless demand,” shares Tasmyn Jain, Zoe Ndlovu and Nthuthuko Sibisi of the Heartland KZN team.
But this is where collaboration steps in as a real game-changer. Because no single organisation can do it all. The challenges are too big and the needs too great.
However, when groups join forces to share resources, knowledge, and compassion, the impact multiplies exponentially. Rescue centres can focus more on care rather than scrambling for basic supplies; dogs get healthier meals that improve their recovery and quality of life; and the community benefits from stronger, more sustainable welfare networks.
That is the difference the 20 Ton campaign hopes to make. Where working together benefits everyone involved: rescue centres, animals, and communities alike.
How to Support the 20 Ton Campaign
The cost of sponsoring 1 ton in full is R15,000, but no amount is too big or small because it all adds up. Donors can make a once-off contribution with funds paid directly to the supplier at this specially negotiated rate of just R15 per kilogram for premium dog food.
Each participating rescue will collect its allocated ton from the depot in Cato Ridge, KZN. Delivery can also be arranged through Heartland KZN where required.
“This campaign isn’t just about food; it’s about fostering a spirit of unity in an industry that thrives on care and compassion. It’s a call to everyone who believes that every dog deserves a chance at a better life to chip in, spread the word, or simply cheer on these efforts. Together, we can help these rescue centres keep their promise to every dog in their care — that no one will be left hungry or forgotten,” the team explains.
