Nearly 200 blankets are bringing warmth, comfort and hope to vulnerable children and families through Doorway to Dignity’s latest winter outreach.
Johannesburg, South Africa (01 July 2026) – As winter’s icy grip tightens across South Africa, a simple blanket can mean the difference between comfort and hardship for many vulnerable families and individuals.
That’s why Doorway to Dignity is celebrating an outpouring of generosity after receiving close to 200 blankets, along with winter clothing, to help people facing the coldest months of the year.
The donations came from the Fourways Main Reef Rotary Club, Scubaversity Dive Club and an anonymous corporate donor, whose combined support will help provide warmth to communities that need it most. Rather than keeping the donations in one place, Doorway to Dignity has already begun distributing them to organisations caring for children and vulnerable people across the country.
Beneficiaries include The Lighthouse Baby Shelter, Nursing Care House of Grace, Johannesburg Bible College, a preschool in Thulamntwana near Orange Farm, and a children’s home in Limpopo.
“Our goal at Doorway to Dignity is to address the plight of vulnerable, destitute and homeless people,” the organisation said.
The organisation also expressed its heartfelt gratitude to everyone who contributed, saying every donation helps bring comfort, dignity and hope during one of the toughest times of the year.
As temperatures continue to drop, initiatives like these serve as a reminder that even the smallest act of kindness can make winter a little warmer for someone else.
