Paballo Lobone’s story – an emergency hero who went viral after saving lives even though he didn’t have a job – is being added to a school curriculum.
North West, South Africa (25 January 2022) – Paballo Lobone’s story was an inspiring one when we shared it back in February 2020 and since then, not only has the hopeful emergency volunteer landed a full-time job, but his story has also become part of a school curriculum!
Despite his struggles to land a job, Paballo saved countless lives thanks to his training and had always hoped it would help him find a job. He had studied a few courses picking up firefighter, ambulance and safety skills. With the laws of attraction at play, people in need always seem to be wherever Paballo is.
In 2018, he was walking with his cousin through Hillbrow and saw a group of panicked people over the road. He went to see what was wrong and found a woman giving birth. He helped her stay calm and delivered the baby safely. The news about his actions went viral, and he became a hero in the media for a time. He has also stopped the bleeding of a man who had been mugged and stabbed, he calmed and treated a woman who had been hit by a car, and he helped when two shacks near his home had caught fire.
“Paballo was so used to being the hero that he kept latex gloves in his pocket so he could help in a heartbeat. When Good Things Guy readers heard the story, many reached out to help. Paballo received funds to purchase a proper first-aid kit.
For a time after the story broke, he kept in touch with the Good Things Guy team, giving updates about his job status, hoping to someday land a job in the medical emergency field,” Tyler Vivier, Good Things Guy journalist explained.
Living with his grandmother, only her grant to support them, Paballo worked tirelessly to find a job that would take the burden off his family.
Paballo landed a job in September that year, securing a contract with Matlosana EMRS in Klerksdorp. The job is thankfully in Paballo’s hometown, which makes a big difference. He is able to stay at home with his family and support them as they did for him. We asked Paballo how his grandmother felt when he gave her the news.
“She can finally get a good sleep seeing that I got what we both always wanted, going out there and helping people, doing what I love. She is proud of me”
And now the hero’s story will be featured in a school curriculum for a junior high school in Japan!!!
