The kind ladies of Vlytige Vingers made an incredible donation to Stepping Stones Hospice, wrapping patients in extra warmth for the winter.
Gauteng, South Africa (03 June 2026) – Another feel-good story about knitters picking up their needles to do their bit!
A recent visit to Stepping Stone Hospice’s New Market in-patient unit left skilled knitters Marié Breedt and Sonja Coetzer wanting to do more. So they went back to their church knitting group, Vlytige Vingers, and set kindness in motion.
The group put their needles to good use, knitting 19 sets of jerseys and beanies and 20 colourful blankets, all donated to the hospice’s patients.
“We are deeply moved and incredibly grateful to the wonderful ladies of Vlytige Vingers from NG Kerk Alberton-Oos for their extraordinary act of love and kindness,” the hospice shared. “With skilled hands and the most generous hearts, their group lovingly crafted and donated 19 sets of jerseys and beanies, and 20 colourful, hand-knitted blankets.”
Stepping Stone Hospice provides specialist palliative care to people living with life-threatening illness. These are patients who are no longer receiving curative treatment and who need compassionate, ongoing support through one of the most unimaginably difficult chapters of their lives. Hospice care is available to everyone, regardless of financial means, background or belief.
The Stepping Stone team does incredible work. Last year, the hospice cared for close to 300 patients in its in-patient unit, supported more than 1000 individuals needing ongoing care, and made 636 home visits for families who had nowhere else to turn.
If you would like to support Stepping Stone Hospice, they have a special evening on Wednesday, 25 June at 17:30, celebrating two years of their Children’s Unit and launching their Brick by Brick Building Campaign. It takes place at 12 Glen Ablyn Street, Raceview, Alberton — and everyone is welcome. Find out more here.
