‘She sat in the back seat to comfort my baby, singing Twinkle Twinkle Little Star’ – and she didn’t leave until she was sure the little one was fine!
Cape Town, South Africa (12 June 2026) – What began as a stressful drive home with a sobbing baby ended with an act of kindness a Cape Town mom says she will never forget.
Zanele Zee Hali recently took to social media to share her gratitude for Officer Diedre Thomas and her law enforcement team after they stepped in to help during a particularly difficult moment on the road.
According to Zanele, her baby was crying uncontrollably in the back seat while she was driving along Stellenbosch Arterial. Although she wanted to pull over and check on her little one, concerns about safety made her hesitant.
Then she spotted them – a team of law enforcement officers near the Engen M12 Motors filling station.
“I saw a team of law enforcement officers, and I parked in front of them to check on my baby. My baby was screaming very loudly, and an officer came to assist.”
Officer Diedre Thomas walked over to see what was wrong. She took one look at the situation and did not hesitate. She called her team to escort Zanele home and then she climbed into the back seat herself, next to a screaming baby, and started to sing.
Twinkle, twinkle, little star…
The team stayed with Zanele all the way to her front door, making sure both mother and baby were safe before heading back out on patrol.
Sharing a photo of the moment, Zanele said she hoped people would help recognise Officer Thomas for her kindness.
“Please help make this woman trend for the right reasons. Respect to you, Officer Diedre Thomas.”
Consider this our contribution. Officer Diedre Thomas – you are a Good Things Girl!
