It sounds like the start of a joke, but one little kitten’s visit to a Knysna bar led him straight to a loving home.
Knysna, South Africa (20 August 2026) – Three weeks ago, on a Saturday evening, a lost kitten wandered into a bar in Knysna.
No one knew how he got there or who he belonged to, but this little cat was determined to find someone who could help him. So, the establishment turned to animal welfare for assistance with the kitten, now named Roo.

When Knysna Animal Welfare Society (KAWS) got the call, a volunteer immediately went to fetch the bar’s tiniest four-legged patron.
“Three weeks ago, a lost kitten walked into a bar on a Saturday evening, demanding help. One of our volunteers immediately went to fetch him.” shares KAWS.
Roo stayed in foster care for a week on a ‘stray hold’, just in case he had a family out there looking for him. This window gives owners a chance to claim their lost pets before they can be placed up for adoption.
Nobody came forward, but Roo had already won somebody’s heart.

“But someone else had already fallen in love. They took one look at his dirty little face and offered to adopt him if nobody claimed him.”
While in foster care, Roo got the royal treatment. He was treated for underlying health issues and, according to KAWS, followed his foster uncle cat around like a little duckling. He was also pampered with a spa treatment that revealed his stunning true colours!

Roo has since joined his loving new family, where he is showered with affection. A kitten walked into a bar…and found love!
“Then, when his stray hold was finally over, Roo went home to his loving new family. From street urchin to pampered prince.”
