Vusumuzi Ndlovu came seventh in the S.Pellegrino Young Chef 2018 awards that took place in Milan over this past weekend. His accomplishment has made SA proud.

Vusumuzi Ndlovu is a chef at The Marabi Club, a place known for its good Jazz music and delectable food. The young chef did the club proud by heading off to the S.Pellegrino Young Chef 2018 awards. He made the whole of South Africa proud by finishing in the top 10 and being named the 7th best young chef of 2018.

Vusumuzi competed against 20 other chefs for his title. The final leg of the international competition, based in Milan, saw Vusumuzi prep and present his signature dish to a jury of seven international judges. These judges are commonly referred to as the Seven Sages.

During the competition, Vusumuzi was given guidance and mentorship by DW Eleven-13’s Marthinus Ferreira. Vusumuzi won the Africa and Middle East semi-final which is what pushed him to the final in Milan.

He presented the judges with a dish that looks too beautiful to eat. It was made up of aged duck, grains, and variations of pumpkin. The dish was called ‘Isicupho’ and was based on his childhood.

Ooooh my whirlwind of a week. What an experience. I’d like to say thank you to a few people. Firstly my team back home @themarabiclub , everyone from the big boss and across the board your incredible support humbles me. @thesaxonhotel my second family you guys had my back since day one. @nikitabuxton thanks for putting with me hehehe I hope you got enough quotes. @aniaody for helping me get sorted so I could represent our region. My family and friends for understanding my sock obsession. All the young chefs for being legit true professionals. @marthinusdw1113 for the support in the trenches with me. I have made friends for life. Top7 result, Still surreal considering I almost didn’t make it. The jury… I mean cooking for some of the top chefs in the world and looking into their eyes as I presented my dish that’s something I won’t forget anytime soon. Gratzi.
