It is so often said that it takes a village to raise a child, and right now, the ‘village’ of Cape Town surfers and residents is doing something truly extraordinary for the youth of Elands Bay.

Cape Town, South Africa (16 February 2026) – For years, the 9Miles Project has been active in Elands Bay, working to support local children and youth during the most vulnerable hours of the day, after school. While these hours often expose children to negative influences, the Elands Bay clubhouse offers a vital alternative: a safe, structured environment where they can find academic support, life skills, and confidence through surf therapy and mentorship.

Over time, however, the space has deteriorated, requiring urgent upgrades to remain functional and fit for the future. These include structural improvements to ensure safety and durability, renovations that allow the space to serve more children consistently and creating a sustainable, welcoming environment built to last for years to come.

With plans ready, 9Miles reached out to the community to help bring them to life. The team shared their vision for the Elands Bay clubhouse across various platforms, and their call for help is being answered with incredible generosity, day after day.

In less than two weeks, the surfers and people of Cape Town and beyond have responded with great generosity, raising over R65,000!

“We are deeply grateful to every single person who has contributed so far, your generosity is the reason this is moving,” 9Miles Projects says.

“We would like to begin with building proper toilets and showers, an essential step toward dignity, safety and sustainability. The estimated cost for this phase is approximately R120,000. Starting here allows us to show visible progress while we continue building toward the full renovation. 1,000 surfers giving R1,000 each can build something that will serve generations.”

With the funding goal already more than halfway met, there is great hope that the vision for the clubhouse will soon become a reality. Thanks to this incredible community spirit, even more vulnerable children will have a place to grow – a space where they are truly seen, protected, and supported.

“Sincere thanks to everyone for going the distance with us.”
