Nosh Food Rescue and The People’s Pantry are going to be hosting a day for the food rescue heroes who make sure communities are fed.

Johannesburg, South Africa (31 January 2024)Nosh Food Rescue and The People’s Pantry make sure that food destined for landfill, is diverted to soup kitchens and people in need, rescuing tonnes of usable food and feeding the nation. Both organisations have incredible teams making this happen and as a way to give back, they are planning to honour the heroes who work tirelessly.

They explain that people working within civil society organisations often face many challenges in dealing with the devastation of food poverty and that it is often a thankless job. Well, not this time!

“As our first cooperation of 2024, NOSH Food Rescue and the People’s Pantry (TPP) are hosting a Well-Being Day for all the Food Heroes who work on the ground bringing relief to the hungry in our communities. We’d like to invite you, our supporters, to contribute and engage as we say thanks for their amazing efforts during 2023!”

The Nosh and TPP teams want to make this inaugural event a quarterly occurrence that honours those working on the ground and acknowledges their state of physical and mental wellness.

“The event will serve as a platform for the members of the NOSH and TPP teams to connect with experts in various fields related to wellness while simultaneously encouraging collaboration among participants who often find themselves operating in crippling isolation.”

The event will take place at Victoria Yards in Lorentzville, Johannesburg. Victoria Yards has been the home of The People’s Pantry since it was first formed in 2020.

The wellness day will feature talks and activities such as yoga, meditation, nutrition, pampering, fitness, mental health and some creative team-building exercises. The day will culminate in a nutritious and healthy shared meal accompanied by some live entertainment.

The teams also hope to give each food hero a hamper or goodie bag to take home. They have established a wish list and are reaching out to supporters to please assist in honouring these men and women.

  • Costs and contents of the lunch and other refreshments
  • Mini gift hampers/’goodie bags
  • Certificates of Attendance for participants
  • Health and Wellness practitioners willing to lead short exercise and education sessions
  • Public speakers/figures willing to share a message of their strength, experience and hope

“A detailed budget has been prepared and is available on request. The budget details expenses such as venue rental, speaker fees, marketing materials, refreshments and logistics.”

NOSH Food Rescue will be managing all the donations that come in, so you will be able to request a Section 18a Tax Clearance certificate for donations. You can find the banking details below, as well as email addresses, should you need them.
