Ever wanted to have a sleepover with a couple of cats and dogs? Or even better, kittens and puppies? Well at TEARS you can, and it’s to help raise money too!

TEARS (The Emma Animal Rescue Society) is an organisation that rescues strays and abandoned animals. Their head office is located in the False Bay area of the southern Cape Peninsula.

“As a pro-quality of life, registered, non-profit organisation, we rely on the support of caring individuals and corporates to assist us in fulfilling our mission to bring relief to animals in distress, whether through intervention, education, medical assistance or rehoming.”

TEARS hosts an annual Sleepathon that invites members of the public to sleep in the Kennels and Cattery as a way to raise funding for their shelter and medical costs. The sleepathon is taking place on the 24th or the 25th of March and the aim is to spend 10 hours in the kennel with the animals.

“We’ll match individuals with our dogs and cats on each night, and of course there will be a few creature comforts thrown in (porta-bathrooms, a sponsored meal, and delicious breakfast next morning, and you’ll be able to bring along your own folding chairs, blankets, sleeping bags, etc.). All in – it’s an amazing vibe!”

The fundraising can be done using their sleepathon form, where people sponsor each hour spent in the shelter. Companies can agree to sponsor or match donations collected on the form. Members of the public that are unable to attend the event are also able to donate to the cause.

You can choose between staying at the dog kennels or at the cattery. For more information about how to get involved in the sleepathon visit their information page here and to RSVP to the Facebook event click here.
