Actress Lupita Nyong‘o shared her thoughts on what it meant to highlight Africa and African culture in such a massive spotlight.

“Something like Marvel has a way of really affecting popular culture, and to have that popular culture informed with things that are of African origin and people knowing they are of African origin … is powerful,” Lupita Nyong‘o, who plays warrior Nakia, told Reuters.

“Hopefully it changes the general idea of what being an African is. Too often times we see Africa as a place that is wanting and here it’s a place that you want to go,”

With three South Africans as part of the cast, we are excited to support them along the way. John Kani and his son Atandwa Kani wowed the Red Carpet in their traditional wear. They joined many of their fellow cast members in promoting African influences on the Red Carpet.
