Sometimes it sweeps you off your feet in a loud roar, and sometimes it creeps in quietly; Ivor Frank Caldecott shares his journey in overcoming anxiety in his new book, Calm Within the Chaos.

South Africa (14 April 2025) – Like for many South Africans, everything changed when Covid hit the Caldecott home. The mask mandate had just been dropped in 2022 when Ivor Frank Caldecott and his wife, Stacey, contracted the next variant of the virus. They suffered through the usual symptoms, but while Stacey bounced back, Ivor was struck with long-term struggles.

For Ivor, one of the most crippling symptoms he faced after his Covid was anxiety. Something he had never experienced before, and here it was, taking control of his entire life.

Over the next two years, it would be days filled with visits to numerous doctors—GPs, endocrinologists, cardiologists, neurologists, and homeopaths. With varying measures of success or disappointment. All in an effort to get a handle back on life and overcome the crippling anxiety that had become a huge part of Ivor’s life.

Urged to share his journey, and in an effort to help others find answers, Ivor started writing his book. A guide to helping people heal their anxiety holistically.

“Calm Within the Chaos” is a deeply personal account of his struggles and the various treatments he has tried along the way. From herbal supplements, boosting gut health, managing stress and more, having undergone nearly every treatment to find his calm, Ivor shares his findings, hoping to change just one other life along the way.

“Ivor’s hope is simple yet profound: if this book can help even one person, then he’s done his job.” – Stacey Caldecott

Mental health, especially anxiety, remains a taboo topic for many, yet it’s an issue that affects countless people. Ivor hopes his book will be part of the conversations that break this taboo and normalise these conversations, creating safe spaces for people who need to speak up.

The incredible father and CEO who lives to help others has become a community advocate for overcoming anxiety. Whether the book helps one find comfort and practical advice or just helps one feel less alone, Ivor has accomplished his greatest goal. His first-hand knowledge of the torment that comes from feeling frozen by one’s mind has become his most powerful tool; one he uses to help others.

Included in the book is a section for those who are supporting loved ones through anxiety. Sometimes it’s the people we love who are hurting. Ivor watched as his wife tried her best to work with him through every aspect of his journey. Learning alongside him and finding the grace to keep pushing through, even when it got hard, was another inspirational element to his story that he has been able to share with others.

“Relationships are meant to be a source of comfort, support and joy, but when anxiety enters the picture, it can complicate even the strongest connections. However, by approaching relationships with empathy, open communication and a commitment to managing anxiety, you can strengthen your bonds and create a more peaceful, loving dynamic.” – Ivor Frank Caldecott

He shares:

  1. Listen without trying to fix.
  2. Be patient and understanding.
  3. Encourage healthy coping mechanisms.
  4. Respect their need for space.

He goes in-depth on these prompts, but you will have to go and read all about it for yourself. If you would like to learn more about this book, visit its website here.
