Ongoing work on Devil’s Peak is making the trail safer, with volunteers moving rocks, clearing overgrown sections and getting it ready for the winter season.

Cape Town, South Africa (25 March 2026) – Trail runners heading up Devil’s Peak can look forward to a safer and smoother experience, thanks to recent restoration work carried out by dedicated volunteers.

With winter approaching, a major focus of the work has been on improving safety and durability along the route. Water bars have been cleared to manage rainfall, while overgrown sections have been cut back to open up the path. In more technical areas, rock and log steps have been carefully installed, helping stabilise the trail and make it more accessible for runners and hikers.

One of the standout efforts has been the physical labour involved in reshaping the trail. Large rocks were moved into place using basic tools such as shovels, pickaxes and crowbars.

“The Trail Apostles are amazing. Nicest guys in the world if you get to meet them. Moving huge rocks into place with not much more than a shovel, pickaxe and crowbar. Love,” one comment said.

“Thank you all so much, we see it and we appreciate,” another added.

While Devil’s Peak is a favourite among trail runners, ongoing maintenance like this plays a crucial role in preserving the route and keeping it safe throughout the changing seasons.
