Funda Nenja has been helping township children train their dogs for years and their recent move has meant a makeover of the organisation.
KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa (28 June 2021) – Funda Nenja runs in the township of Mpophomeni, near Howick, in the KZN Midlands of South Africa. They focus on animal welfare in the area by providing dog training lessons to the children.
These lessons not only teach the dogs some skills, but it also helps the children bond with their pets and forms a deeper connection. The classes help educate children in animal welfare and encourage them to show their families how to treat animals.
Classes are taught by volunteer instructors, and some of the instructors are previous pupils who have gone through the training programme themselves.
All dogs on the programme are given a collar and a lead and are dewormed. The children are given training treats during classes to help with training and sent home with a small bag to continue training in a familiar environment. We covered the ins and outs of the organisation previously, which you can read here.
Sadly, the pandemic has meant the lessons have been postponed but they have not sat idle. The Funda Nenja school was moved to a new location a few months back and more recently, received a stunning makeover.
The four containers that house the supplied for Funda Nenja got painted with the most beautiful mural.
“As many of you will remember, a few months ago, we moved our whole organisation from one school premises to another. This included moving our 4 shipping containers. Once they were relocated to the new premises we decided it would be a good idea to have them painted, so we approached a local artist and supporter, Sally Barrett, to paint a mural on the “road side” of the containers. It has taken Sally and her 2 assistants, Lenox and Jeffrey, approximately 3 weeks to complete this amazing mural. We are absolutely ecstatic with the result and would like to express our sincere thanks to Sally, Lennox and Jeffrey for all their hard work and commitment to this project.”
