Funda Nenja has set a goal to sterilise 70 animals from the township of Mpophomeni this year by launching two dedicated steri days for 2023.
Mpophomeni, South Africa (27 February 2023) – Funda Nenja is working to make its clinic more accessible to the community at large. To date, they have only been able to cover the costs of sterilisations, vaccinations and deworming to participants of the educational programme. But they are hoping to raise funds to cover the cost of a community outreach that will see more animals cared for in the township.
Funda Nenja, a dog training initiative, runs in the township of Mpophomeni, near Howick, in the KZN Midlands of South Africa. They focus on animal welfare in the area by providing dog training lessons to the children and much-needed vaccinations for their beloved dogs.
These lessons teach the dogs some obedience skills but also help the children bond with their pets to form a deeper connection. The classes help educate children about animal welfare and encourage them to show their families how to treat animals too.
The classes are hosted each week, and as part of the programme, the dogs involved get checked up by the primary veterinary clinic. Any animals not inoculated yet, get it done right there.
To help the community better manage unwanted litters, they have set the goal of sterilising 70 animals that are not enrolled in the programme.
“Litters of puppies are fairly often brought to our weekly clinic for deworming and inoculation. Up to now our funding has only permitted us to sterilise those dogs registered with the dog school programme. This year we hope to hold 2 mass steri clinics for the dogs in the broader community so that indiscriminate breeding is reduced.
We need to raise R35000 per clinic with the first one scheduled for mid-year and the second towards the end of 2023.
If you would like to sponsor a township dog and improve the quality of it’s life, the cost per dog is R1000. However, ANY donation would be gratefully received and will assist us in reaching our target.
Please use the reference Mass Steri Clinic when making a deposit.”
You can donate towards this cause via the website here. There are several options available to make a donation.
Assisting the community with these sterilisations will go a long way in helping control the animal population within Mpophomeni.
