Hout Bay, South Africa (12 September 2023) – On this International Crochet Day, 12 September 2023, we are proud to celebrate the incredible accomplishments of the Re.Bag.Re.Use team in Hout Bay, Cape Town. Over the past two years, these dedicated individuals have transformed an astonishing 62,755 empty bread bags into stunning, multifunctional products. By repurposing plastic waste, they are not only helping reduce landfill waste and protecting our environment, but also providing an additional income to members of the community.

Re.Bag.Re.Use was founded with the goal of repurposing soft plastic bags, and it has quickly become a shining example of sustainability and creativity. With fifteen talented ladies involved, five cutting the plastic and ten skilfully crocheting it, this initiative produces a range of unique and attractive products.

Their efforts have garnered significant attention, and Re.Bag.Re.Use products have gained immense popularity. Recently, the team fulfilled one of their largest orders to Denmark, highlighting the global demand for their creations. Each sale not only provides customers with beautifully handcrafted items but also supports the local community. Additionally, a percentage of the proceeds is donated to the Neighbourhood Old Age Home (NOAH) and the SPCA.
