A new song is ready to be streamed, and anyone who lends an ear will be part of uplifting Khayelitsha! Through ‘Layita Khayelitsha’, streams equal solar lights for the community:

South Africa (3 December 2023) — Amapiano artists Khanyisa Jaceni, Sbuda Maleather and Ice Beats Slide are behind an exclusive song with a message of light for the people of Khayelitsha. The anthem, ‘Layita Khayelitsha’ has mobilised creatives like Samauri Faurai (who designed the cover work) to make tangible change through creation in its many facets, at a critical time for the community.

‘Layita Khayelitsha’, which translates as ‘to light up Khayelitsha’, aims to combat the challenges the community face, especially with frequent power outages and insufficient street lighting. These elements have a direct impact on the security of the area.

Through streaming the song, anyone from anywhere can lend their ears to improve these conditions. For every 2000 streams of the track during the campaign’s run, a solar light will be installed for the community.

The goal is to install 50 solar lights by the end of February 2024, and the campaign is running until 31 January.

“Layita Khayelitsha is about lighting up and my name means ‘to light up’ too so I had to be involved,” says Khanyisa.

“I’ve always been obsessed with using my art to help, inspire and change lives in real time & in a real way. This project allowed me to do all of it!” Samurai Farai (Farai Engelbrecht) shared. “Layita Khayelitsha is an anthem created for a generation eager to make a difference.”

You can stream the song and show your support on Spotify, YouTube, or Beatport.
