The Nelspruit SPCA team have faced countless break-ins, destruction of property and theft in the past few months, they need to upgrade their security and are asking the public for help.

Mbombela, South Africa (27 September 2023) – Feeling utterly devastated by continued break-ins, the Nelspruit SPCA have turned to the public for help in boosting their security to help protect their animals and assets needed for providing care to animals in need.

They have seen a rise in break-ins with damage to the property being reported three to four times a week now. Based in the industrial side of Mbombela, they are more prone to thefts and break-ins. The only way to prevent further crime is to up their security but this is set to come at a very high price. A price they simply cannot afford alone.

“Over the past 4 months, our SPCA has been the victim of 3 to 4 burglaries per week. Our copper pipes were stolen numerous times, leaving us without water to properly clean our kennels. The mesh around our kennels and catteries have been cut numerous times, placing our animals at risk.

Our security lights have been smashed into pieces, or stolen. Our Hyundai’s battery was stolen 3 times, despite a special steel box we had made. Our office burglar bars were cut off and our one computer was stolen. Our alarm cables were cut last week.

We had huge expenses fixing this, funds we could have used for animals in need.”

Not only do they need to boost the security on the premises, but they also need to safeguard all the new installations.

“We want to put up an electric fence around our building, upgrade our alarm system, install additional security lights with steel boxes around them to secure them. We also need a new battery for the Hyundai, a vital vehicle for our outreach programmes.”

To accomplish all of this, they hope to raise R120,000. They welcome donations of any size. If you are able to assist, you can reach out via Facebook here.

The organisation also has a charity shop so if you are unable to donate money, your spring cleaning could make a difference too!

“If every follower on our page only donates R20, we will have approximately R 400 000 to secure our premises. Any other amount is also welcome, of course.

We have to deal with so much heartbreak every day, to deal with this on top of all the other challenges just makes us feel discouraged and defeated.

Please assist us, it is not for us, but to keep our animals and assests safe”
