The Special Kneads Café in Sandton, Johannesburg was started by a mother who wanted better opportunities for her daughter. The café will change the lives of special needs adults.
Kim Rundle was inspired by the doggy daycare her daughter Sammi worked at and decided to follow in its unique footsteps. The doggy daycare was set up as a way for special needs teens to find work. We shared the story about the daycare back in 2017 and it became a really popular one. People loved the concept.
The daycare was started by Tamara Coumbis for her step-son. He needed work and had a passion for animals. It was at this doggy daycare that Kim Rundle met Tamara. Kim’s daughter is also special needs so the mothers became close.
Since then Kim has been inspired to open yet another business that will offer employment options to special needs adults. Kim, Tamara and Jenny Emslie joined forces and created ‘The Special Kneads Café‘.
The cafe was in the works of being opened at the doggy daycare but sadly was denied. Thankfully, Kim didn’t give up and the cafe was officially opened at Fluffs and Tufts in Sandton.
Jenny’s son Chris has been training as a pastry chef to make delicious treats for the cafe.

Wow this is a great idea but nowhere in the article of where this is. It mentions Joberg in the heading and further down it says at the same premises as the doggie Daycare but where is even that?
Hello Jerome, it is situated in Bryanston, I can vouch for the doggie day care centre – our dog went there for the holidays and came back better behaved and in great condition!!! Bonus for all concerned 😊❤️ regards, Bronwyn Tucket
