Winter blanket drive blankets

Norwood Young Stars Academy has invited the general public to donate blankets to disadvantaged people as part of the schools blanket drive. It’s teaching the children the gift of giving.

 

The Norwood Young Stars Academy have started their blanket drive for 2018. The children at the school are collecting blankets for disadvantaged children, the elderly and displaced members of the public.

The school is accepting new and used blankets, which should be clean, and facilitating their distribution. This act will help the young children learn the act of giving in kindness. Norwood, located in Johannesburg, is rapidly growing and developing. It is considered one of the oldest suburbs in the city with houses from the 1920’s still standing today.

This small act of warmth and kindness will go a long way for those in need. By hosting the blanket drive, the school will help life the moral of the needy and give them a means to stay warm during what promises to be a chilly Johannesburg winter.

The organiser, Sharon Mtshali, who started the blanket drive, is also a community public relations and communications officer in Norwood.

“We urge everyone and anyone who might see a need for his or her old blankets to please donate them for the better use of the mentioned needy people in our community.

“Those who want to buy are welcome to do so but we also accept old but clean blankets. This is the first time we are doing this campaign but we believe it will come in handy to assist those who are unable to afford it.”

Sharon has confirmed that the school will also be hosting an event on Youth Day. There will be a collection area for people drop off their donations. The event on 16 June and will include soccer matches, food stalls, dancing, fashion shows and arts activities to mark the celebrations.

“This is the day when everyone can then come and celebrate with us and even donate the blankets as well as other resourceful valuables including food.”
