The Drakensberg Boys Choir are dedicating their voices and an upcoming performance to positively impact the futures of children in Alexandra, and everyone is invited:

Johannesburg, South Africa (24 November 2023) — Alexandra-based NPO Rays of Hope is thrilled to announce that South Africa’s famed Drakensberg Boys Choir will be dedicating an upcoming performance to the children of their community.

Part of the Noël Tour 2023, the Choir will be stopping at the Rosebank Union Church in Johannesburg on Tuesday 28 November at 18:30 where all are welcome to relish in the sounds of hope.

The youth choral group, known for moving crowds around the world with their angelic voices, is to perform in aid of the ‘Sponsor a Child’ initiative by Rays of Hope. This initiative aims to bring tangible hope to children living in Alex through monthly sponsorships that see to their educational, social, psychological, emotional, and living needs.

“Sponsor a Child is a vital programme in support of the Alexandra Township community, where we encourage businesses, individuals, and organisations to pledge their support for a child in Alex with a monthly donation,” shares Bertha Muchadeyi, Psychosocial Support Leader at rays of Hope.

“It costs just R1,000 to cover the educational and psychosocial needs of each child per month and any donation towards this amount would be welcome. This sponsorship isn’t a mere donation, but an investment in a child’s future, ensuring they are well-fed, educated and nurtured now so that they can enjoy successful, prosperous lives in the future.”

Some of the beneficiaries of the Sponsor a Child initiative will also be present at the event to afford them an opportunity to be inspired by the boys on stage and show them that anything is possible with the right support and attitude.

“It is an honour and a privilege to host the renowned Drakensberg Boys Choir and a blessing that their efforts will benefit the children of Alex who deserve a chance at a better life, now and in the future,” adds Muchadeyi.

Tickets can be purchased here, and all proceeds will go to the Rays of Hope ‘Sponsor a Child’ programme.
