For the first time ever, the national organisation is running a special festive initiative that supports both vulnerable children and animal welfare.
South Africa (02 December 2025) –The NSPCA is ending 2025 on an extra kind note, and they’re inviting South Africans to help them make it happen.
This year’s festive initiative combines two important things. Animal welfare education and giving back. It aims to do so by making Christmas morning just a little brighter for 150 children in care.
In partnership with the Kaenguru Institute for the Disabled and Jakaranda Kinderhuis, the NSPCA is encouraging supporters to donate a kiddies’ read as a Christmas gift for a child who might otherwise wake up without one.
Each book costs R210 and doubles as both a present and an introduction to the NSPCA’s mission to promote care and kindness to all animals.
The book ‘Animals Do What?’ celebrates all the incredible things animals do for us humans.

“These books form part of the NSPCA’s educational outreach, introducing young people to the
importance of kindness, empathy, and respect for animals. By linking animal welfare education to an act of generosity, the campaign strengthens two essential causes at once.”
The goal is to place at least 150 of these reads into the hands of children living in care at Kaenguru and Jakaranda.
Running from Giving Tuesday on 2 December until 20 December, anyone can get involved. If you can’t sponsor a Christmas read, you can still help spread the word by sharing this with your friends, family, colleagues and community groups.
It’s a small gesture that’ll create big ripples in compassion. It’s a festive gift for a child, and a message that kindness and respect, for people and animals, is something worth growing.

Select donors will also be invited to the NSPCA offices for a special wrapping day, where they’ll sign Christmas handwritten messages and package the books themselves before they’re delivered on 24 December.
