Some very important luggage containing very important clothing went missing while en route from Joburg to London; SA Airport staff made all the difference in tracking the bag down and getting it to London.

Gauteng, South Africa (28 September 2023) – Luggage issues while travelling are always an absolute nightmare to have to deal with. Victoria Mok shared her experience in trying to track down her son’s missing luggage and wanted to shout out to the team that helped her finally find the bag at OR Tambo International Airport, avoiding a nightmare altogether!

Victoria’s son is part of an international Army and he had brought his uniform home to South Africa to show his family what it looked like. When it came time to head back for duty, he packed it up carefully and set off for the airport.

“People are always complaining about baggage handling at ORT, but I had an amazing experience that I wanted to share.

My son came home for a visit and then flew back to London, via Amsterdam, on 2nd September. There was a problem with one of his bags – the bag containing his Army uniform which he had brought to SA to show us. He was assured it would be put on the plane, but it never got to Heathrow.”

Being in South Africa, Victoria went to the airport in person to see if they could find the luggage sooner as they were having a few troubles on the London side.

“I went to the NAS Colossal offices at ORT on Tuesday 5th September to try and find out what was happening, and I was dreading the experience!

However, I was greeted by Lebogo Phoshoko and Beauty Ngoepe, who were absolutely amazing and went above and beyond to help me.

KLM in London was of no use at all – they put the wrong tag number on the missing luggage reporting form, and then never updated their online tracking portal with any progress reports. Lebogo and Beauty however, together with Tina Maluleke and Katharine Rangayah, tracked the bag to France (KLM only knows how and why it went there). They got it from Charl de Gaulle to Heathrow, and then delivered to my son in London.”

Victoria shared that the process took ten stressful days but that the ladies who worked to help her, updated her every step of the way. She wanted to sing their praises for the help and reassurance given.

“Thanks to these ladies he got his uniform (and home-made rusks) back, in perfect condition. Not a single thing was missing or damaged.”

Now that the luggage issue has been solved, everyone is sleeping a little better!
