Golden Shears

The South African Sheep Shearing Federation has a team flying the flag in Edinburgh, Scotland; the team is competing at the Golden Shears Shearing & Woolhandling World Championships 2023.

 

Scotland, United Kingdom (23 June 2023) – The Golden Shears Shearing & Woolhandling World Championships  2023 is underway and South Africa has a team ready to compete! Let’s meet them.

The Golden Shears championship sees competitors from all over the world coming together to showcase their skills and shearing styles. Representatives from 29 countries will compete for the winning titles.

The Protea Sheep Shearing and Wool Handling Team is made up by seven talented individuals, including the team manager Izak Klooper. The Proteas are as follows:

Blade Shearers

  • Zwelamakhosi Mbuweni
  • Bonile Rabela

Machin Shearers

  • Dumisani Xhasa
  • Hans van Schalkwyk

Wool Handlers

  • Almarie Muller van Schalkwyk
  • Marie Mullee

The competiton is hosted by the Royal Highland Show which takes place annually to promote Scotlands agricultural practices. It was founded in 1822 and has been a highlight on the agricultural calendar ever since. The show is running until the 25th of June 2023 – the comepetiton has heats each day with all the finals taking place on Sunday.
