Three companies dedicated to bettering kids lives have teamed up to give free swimming lessons to help them learn to swim before December holidays.

Super Star Swim School is collaborating with Cool (kids’) Cabs and Magical Moments to teach 45 children and five adults from the Alexandra township to swim by December. The project aims to create greater awareness around water safety and to give the gift of this essential life skill that will have a lasting impression on these children’s lives.

The lessons have already started and the hope is that each of the children and adults will be strong swimmers by the time the holiday season starts.

“Learning to swim is a luxury for many in this country, however with the statistics of drowning and water accidents so high it is becoming a necessary life skill that should be made available to all. We want to help make that a reality. We have taught hundreds of children over the years and we want to give back to those who have not had the opportunity to learn. Water safety is of great importance and we can’t wait to share this skill and the joy of swimming with these children,” says Nicki Taylor Riley, owner of Super Star Swim School.

Non-profit organisation Magical Moments gives underprivileged children the opportunity to experience a different world. The three collaberators have been self-funding the entire project to help educate children in the knowledge of water safety and the joy that learning to swim can bring.

“This is a community driven initiative, that aims to make a lasting impact on these children by teaching them to swim. We would like to encourage other swimming schools and businesses to take up the pledge to help build a stronger community and provide these opportunities for our children,” concludes Riley.

To further help these children and parents, the swim school is accepting donations of swimming caps, towels and sun lotion to help protect them from the sun. If you would like to help, you can contact Nicki at nicki@superstarswimming.co.za
