Weekly physical training sessions at Tembaletu give people with disabilities strength, confidence and wellbeing through consistent movement and community support.
Cape Town, South Africa (19 March 2026) – Midweek at Tembaletu is anything but ordinary. This is where Every Wednesday morning, the grounds of Tembaletu are busy with participants laced up for their weekly physical training session. The group heads out on a walk to a nearby community sports ground, all in building confidence for people with disabilities. It’s about building strength and creating a space where everyone feels included and supported.
For many persons with disabilities, access to safe and consistent physical activity isn’t always guaranteed. That’s what makes these weekly sessions so important. They turn movement into a regular part of life, not just a once-off opportunity.
Guided by a steady and supportive facilitator, the group moves together at a comfortable pace, making sure no one is left behind. Along the way, participants improve their stamina and mobility, but also gain a sense of belonging.

Week by week, the benefits start to show. A reminder that wellness is also social and emotional.
And the impact doesn’t stop there! It also promotes a holistic approach to wellbeing, pairing physical activity with proper nutrition through its organic micro-farming initiatives.
As part of the work led by the Western Cape Association for Persons with Disabilities, initiatives like these are helping to create a more inclusive society where persons with disabilities are supported to grow.
