Willem Greeff, a local filmmaker, wanted to do more than just make a movie, he wanted to showcase the talent and beauty of his hometown too and made something amazing.
Cape Town and Johannesburg are featured in movies time and time again but one filmmaker wanted to feature his home of Uitenhage in the Eastern Cape to show how it can also be a perfect setting.
Willem Greeff recently showcased his first feature-film in his hometown. His movie was self-funded, written and directed by Greeff who also starred in the film. ‘The Impervious Soul’ is about a man who, after failing a drug test at work and getting laid off, stops at nothing to provide for his family.
“With Impervious Souls, it will be different. The emotional turmoil will unexpectedly be exposed through captivating special effects and dialogue. I would like for the movie to be visually pleasing – this opens doors to international screens.” – Willem Greeff
In 2016, Willem put out a request looking for local talent to audition for roles in his movie. In an interview with News24, Greeff confirmed he would also be filming a romantic comedy in Uitenhage.
“I know there is a lot of talent in town and we are looking forward to discover it.”
Since 2016, the project has taken on many talented individuals. Greeff confirmed that somehow, everyone looking for a creative outlet managed to find their way to him.
The first public screening of the film was at the Strelitzia High School in Uitenhage, this past Friday night. Now Greeff hopes to get the video onto platforms like Showmax and Amazon. He also dreams of filming a film every year.
Hopefully, his movie will be available to South Africans soon. We look forward to seeing it and all its success!
