There is nothing more exciting to a child than meeting a real-life police officer; the children from Masicorp’s pre-school recently met their heroes for child protection week.
Masiphumelele, South Africa (10 June 2022) – Police officers taught a group of eager children all about their personal safety and rights for Child Protection Week (29 May 2022 – 05 June 2022) recently. The children loved meeting the officers and had a fun day learning how to stay safe from danger.
Masicorp adopted the community of Masiphumelele in 1999. Masiphumelele is located between Kommetjie, Capri Village and Noordhoek in the Western Cape. The community of Masiphumelele was founded in the 1980s and means “let us succeed”. While the community is classed as previously-disadvantaged, Masicorp works towards uplifting the community through education-based projects.
The non-profit organisation aims to provide quality education, training, support and advice to everyone in the community. Masicorp was founded by John and Carol Thompson and Jane Philippi, who visited South Africa from America and wanted to give back. The organisation can assist between 1500 and 5300 people each year.
One of the recent activities at the pre-school in Masiphumelele was for the children to learn about their personal safety. The officers taught the children to say “no” and about the rights they have to protect their bodies. They were also encouraged to talk to their loved ones when they felt in danger. These skills are essential for protecting children.

Events like this are always fun-filled but carry essential information that can save lives. These children will remember everything the helpful police officers shared with them.
